Bailing out - South West Coast Path

At breakfast in the B&B we watched the mist swirl past the window. It wasn't looking inviting to head back onto those high cliffs. The forecast for the next two days was woeful. Our footwear was still wet. It didn't feel like the longest day.

I was in a quandary. It seemed early to bail out, after all we had only been away for two days. On the other hand I had never been to Hartland Point and to walk it in thick fog seemed a shame, if not foolhardy. We decided to pack and set off and then see how we felt. As we reached the bottom of the road a bus came round the corner. Almost automatically, I stuck out my hand, the bus stopped and we got on. Mick's relief was palpable.

So we rode the bus to Bideford and then changed for the bus to Ilfracombe. As we came over Mullacott above Ilfracombe the mist was as thick as it had been in Hartland. We had, I thought, made the right decision. We decided to take the weekend off.  I thought about checking the weather forecast but Monday was four days away and anything could change by then.
